When Your Body
Finally Says Enough

What Megan Thee Stallion's health scare on Broadway is teaching all of us about rest, self-care and finally putting yourself first.

"Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place and rest a while."

Mark 6:31, KJV

Meet Megan Thee Stallion

Megan Jovon Ruth Pete, known to the world as Megan Thee Stallion, is a Grammy Award-winning rapper, singer and songwriter from Houston, Texas. She is one of the most celebrated artists of her generation, with three Grammy Awards, multiple chart-topping hits like Savage and Hot Girl Summer and a heart for giving back to her community.

In March 2026, she made history on Broadway, becoming the first woman ever to play the role of Harold Zidler in the hit musical Moulin Rouge! The Musical at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre in New York City. She was doing what she always does: pushing herself to be great, giving everything she had and showing up for her fans.

But on the night of March 31, 2026, just one week into her Broadway run, her body said what her mouth would not. Enough.

What the Doctors Found

😴🏾

Extreme Exhaustion

💧

Dehydration

❤️

Vasoconstriction

Low Metabolic Levels

Vasoconstriction means the blood vessels tighten up and squeeze. It is your body's emergency response when it is completely overwhelmed and running on fumes.

The Wake-Up Call

During the opening scenes of her Tuesday night performance, Megan began to feel very ill. She tried to push through, because that is what strong women do, right? We push. We perform. We show up for everybody else even when we are falling apart inside.

But this time, her body would not let her. The show paused. An understudy stepped in. And Megan was rushed to a nearby hospital in New York City.

Doctors identified the cause: extreme exhaustion, dehydration, vasoconstriction and low metabolic levels. She had been running on empty for so long that her body finally shut the door and said, "Baby, we are done for today."

"

Last night was a real wake-up call for me. I've been pushing myself past my limits lately, running on empty and my body finally said enough. It honestly scared me.

Her Story Might Be Your Story

Megan is young, successful and at the top of her game. She had a sold-out Broadway run, a packed schedule and a whole world watching her. And she still collapsed from exhaustion. Now think about your own life for a moment. You may not be on a Broadway stage, but you are performing every single day.

You are showing up for your job, your children, your grandchildren, your aging parents, your church, your community and anyone else who needs you. You are doing it with a smile on your face and exhaustion in your bones. You are telling yourself, "I will rest when things slow down." But things never slow down, do they?

Many of us are just like Megan. We are high-achieving, hard-working and deeply committed to everyone around us. And just like her, we need to follow her lead and start paying attention to what our bodies are trying to tell us. Your body is not your enemy. It is your messenger. And it is time to start listening before it forces you to stop.

01

You Keep Pushing

You wake up tired. You go to bed tired. But you keep going because people need you. Sound familiar? Megan tried to push through too, until her body made the decision for her.

02

You Put Others First

You are the caregiver, the strong one, the one who holds it all together. But sis, you cannot pour from an empty cup. Even Jesus rested. Even He said, 'Come apart and rest a while.' (Mark 6:31, KJV)

03

You Think Rest is Selfish

It is not. Rest is an act of love, for yourself and for everyone who depends on you. Self-care is not a luxury. It is the art of loving yourself, keeping your peace and setting boundaries with yourself and for others.

What Is Self-Care, Really?

"Self-care is the art of loving yourself, keeping your peace and setting boundaries with yourself and for others."

5 Self-Care Practices to Start Today

Megan took one day to rest and reset. Here are five practices straight from She Rested that you can start right now, starting today, to begin taking care of the most important person in your world: you.

🛌🏾

Give Yourself Permission to Rest

Rest is not laziness. Rest is not selfish. Rest is not earned. When you rest, you are not falling behind. You are being obedient. You are honoring the rhythm God built into creation. You are trusting that the world will keep spinning without you holding it up.

Sacred Practice from the Book: Schedule ONE "Sabbath Moment" this week, just 15 to 30 minutes where you stop everything. Block it in your calendar like a doctor's appointment. Turn off your phone, find a quiet spot and just be still.

"Rest isn't the reward for finishing. Rest is part of the work itself.," from She Rested

"He maketh me to lie down in green pastures.," Psalm 23:2, KJV

💧

Drink Your Water

Dehydration was one of the things that brought Megan down. Most of us are walking around dehydrated and do not even know it. Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit and God wants to restore it. Do not neglect it. Do not ignore its needs.

Tools from the Book: Each day this week, choose ONE way to honor your body: drink enough water, get 7 to 8 hours of sleep, take a 15-minute walk, eat a nourishing meal, stretch for 10 minutes, or schedule that doctor's appointment you have been putting off.

"For I will restore health unto thee and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the Lord.," Jeremiah 30:17, KJV

🚫

Say No Without an Explanation

Guarding your heart is not a passive activity. It is an active, moment-by-moment choice. It is the art of loving yourself enough to protect your peace. It is the wisdom of setting boundaries, not just with others, but with your own thoughts. Every time you say yes to something that drains you, you are saying no to yourself.

Tool from the Book: Before saying yes to anything this week, ask yourself three questions: What is the potential danger here? What would it look like to protect myself? What is the wisest path forward?

"You cannot pour from a poisoned well. Guard your heart and everything else will flow from a healthy source.," from She Rested

📖

Spend Time in the Word

Before you start your day, before you check your phone, before you dive into your responsibilities, pause and pray. Even five minutes in the Word can set the tone for your whole day and remind you whose you are.

Three Planks from the Book: Morning Anchor: Read one scripture and say one thing you are grateful for. Midday Pause: Take 5 deep breaths and whisper "Lord, I need You." Evening Release: Put your phone in another room, read one Proverb or Psalm and tell God one thing you are releasing to Him.

"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.," Psalm 119:105, KJV

🧡

Check In With Your Body

Megan's body had to scream to get her attention. Yours is probably whispering right now. Where are you holding tension? What hurts? What are you ignoring? Listen before it becomes a crisis. God cares about your body, not just your soul.

Daily Heart Check from the Book: Each evening ask yourself: What did I allow into my heart today? How did it make me feel? What do I need to release and what do I need to receive? Write your answers down. You cannot protect what you do not pay attention to.

"I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.," Psalm 139:14, KJV

👑🏾

Claim Your Seat as First Lady

You are the First Lady of your own life. Not second. Not last. First. It is time to stop treating yourself like an afterthought and start showing up for yourself the way you show up for everyone else. You are worthy of rest. You are worthy of peace. You are worthy of your own time and attention.

From the closing pages of She Rested: "Now go live the abundant life you were created for. Go be the First Lady of your own life. Go shine your light for all the world to see. It is your time, Sis."

"Rest is not selfish. It is sacred.," Dr. Ayngi Montgomery Summers

If Your Body Is Talking... Are You Listening?

When I heard about what happened to Megan, my heart went out to her, because I know that feeling. I have lived it. I have sat in that same place, running on empty, pushing past every limit and ignoring every warning sign my body was sending me. I kept going because I thought that was what strong women do. Until the day my body said no more.

If you are reading this right now and you feel tired in a way that sleep does not fix, if you feel like you are always behind no matter how much you do, if your body is aching and your spirit is stretched thin, I want you to know that what you are feeling has a name. It is called exhaustion. And it is not a character flaw. It is a signal.

We are the caregivers. The mothers. The daughters. The wives. The workers. The pillars. And we keep going and going until something, or someone, forces us to stop. That is exactly why I developed my R.E.S.T. Transformational System, a proven method I created specifically to teach high-achieving women like you how to recover from exhaustion and reclaim your life without guilt, without shame and without losing everything you have worked so hard to build.

You do not have to wait for a crisis to choose yourself. You can choose yourself right now. That is what She Rested is all about. And beautiful, brilliant woman, it is your time.

What is the R.E.S.T. Transformational System?

R.E.S.T. stands for Reclaim, Energize, Sustain and Transform. It is a step-by-step system designed for high-achieving women who are exhausted, overwhelmed and ready to stop running on fumes. Through this system, you will learn how to recover from burnout, restore your energy, set boundaries that actually hold and build a self-care practice that fits your real life, not just your best day.
